WHY IT MATTERS

Tramway Nonprofit Center

ULC acquired the former Phillips Center in 2007 and has maintained it as a vibrant community hub for nearly two decades. Known as the Tramway Nonprofit Center today, the 65,000-square-foot building at 35th Avenue and Franklin Street takes up more than half of a city block. More than a dozen nonprofit organizations that serve the community operate out of the Tramway Nonprofit Center, receiving below-market lease rates and providing critical services and programs to the Cole community and beyond. Over the years programs have included: health care, preschool, after-school activities, at-risk youth intervention, senior housing supports, LGBTQ2S+ advocacy, STEM workshops, a theatre company for actors with disabilities, and more. In 2014, ULC installed a solar roof on Tramway, making it ULC’s first property to use solar power. The original building dated back to the late 1800s and was built as a storage and maintenance facility for electric streetcars; it was owned for decades by the Denver Tramway Company.
